Getting your first Apple MacBook is a great feeling. It may take a little bit of getting used to the Operating System (OS) of a Mac but in the end, you won’t want to be without one ever again. Below are a couple tips to help you work faster and more efficiently when using your new Mac.
Simpler Right Click
When you first start using your Mac, you will notice that it doesn’t have a left or right mouse button, but rather just the clickable trackpad. As easy as it is to right-click by holding ctrl and clicking the trackpad, there is a simpler way. You can right-click by using two fingers instead of one. In order for this setting to work, it will need to be enabled. You can find it by going to System Preferences > Trackpad and selecting “Secondary Click”. You also have the option of right-clicking with the bottom right or left corners of the trackpad.
Switching Between Screens
If you are someone who uses multiple full-screen tabs, you will find it much smoother to move between them with the three-finger swipe option. This option allows you to swipe across your trackpad with three fingers to go to a different screen. You will find this setting under your Trackpad option in System Preferences. Go over to the “More Gestures” tab and find the “Swipe between full-screen apps”.
Bring up the launchpad
When you search for different apps, you may want to use the launchpad to find the one you are looking for more easily. You can use the Launchpad shortcut in your Dock at the bottom of the screen, or your you can open it faster by moving four fingers closer together (kind of like zooming out on a phone). To go back to the desktop, you can do the same movement in reverse. There are a number of other trackpad shortcuts which you can find under the Trackpad option in your System Preferences.
Search faster
If you can’t seem to find something on your computer, you can search it easily by tapping cmd + spacebar at the same time. This is an easy way of bringing up the spotlight search bar and can save you a lot of time when searching for things.
For the avid emoji users
One of the most commonly used text items with the advancement of technology is the emoji. If you are an avid emoji user, you will be glad to hear that there is a fast way for you to use emojis with your Mac. Simply press ctrl+cmd+spacebar and a window with all of Apple’s emojis will pop up for you.
We hope these shortcuts help you out when using your new Mac. Just play around with the various settings and see what else there is to discover. Your life will get a whole lot easier.
