Apple is set to release wireless earbuds called AirPods any day now.
What are AirPods and how do they work?
AirPods are essentially wireless earphones. These AirPods work by connecting to any Apple device and simply tapping “connect”. However, in order for these AirPods to work, devices have to run on iOS 10, macOS Sierra or watchOS3.
As far as “smart” devices go, these babies are pretty much up there. A chip called the W1 makes sure that the wireless connection and audio are in working condition, and by means of dual accelerometers and optical sensors, the AirPods can detect when users insert them into their ears. How’s that for smart? And if they’re removed from the user’s ears, the music will pause.
You also have access to a microphone which means you can simultaneously talk on the phone. The extra accelerometer will drown out any background noise.
The AirPods are touch sensitive too, which means that you can simply tap on them to either pick up or hang up the phone.
How long can they work for?
The AirPods can run for about 5 hours without needing to be charged, and the case in which they charge can go for approximately 25 hours. This is revolutionary – by charging the AirPods for as little as 15 minutes, you can have 5 hours of listening time!
What do they cost?
These wireless earphones go for about $159 which approximately translates to about R2226.
Apple does however take all their customers into consideration. So, if you’re not keen on coughing up that amount, you can simply use the provided earphones that come standard with the iPhone 7, and connect it to the lightning cable. Unfortunately you won’t be able to use earphones that don’t have a lightning cable. But us die-hard Apple fans wouldn’t have it any other way 🙂 bring on the AirPods.
