Samsung’s biannual Galaxy Unpacked event took place earlier this month with three new devices in the new Galaxy S22 range premiered, namely the S22, S22+ and S22 Ultra. We’ve got the inside scoop on these new flagship smartphones, so keep reading to learn more!
S22 & S22+ Features
While the S22 range actually has lower battery capacity and lower main camera resolution than its predecessors, the trade off seems to be fair compared to some of the new and improved features of the latest offspring. With a faster 4nm processor and 120Hz refresh rate, the S22 and S22+ also boast 6.1 inch and 6.6 inch FHD+ displays respectively.
Aesthetically, the models have more neutral tones than prior Galaxy S devices. The happy snappers will also be pleased to know that both models are equipped with a triple-lens main camera, consisting of a 50MP wide-angle lens, 12MP ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 10MP telephoto lens, as well as a 10MP selfie camera.
S22 Ultra Features
The showstopper of the range is by far the S22 Ultra, many features of which have been compared to those of Samsung’s Galaxy Note range. Rather than emulating the Galaxy S21 Ultra’s design, the device even embodies that Note range’s angular corners and curved screen.
The S22 Ultra is the first Galaxy smartphone to come with a built-in S Pen, and comes equipped with a 6.8-inch QHD+ AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. Compared to the other S22 devices, the Ultra has a quadruple camera, including a 108MP wide-angle lens, 12MP ultra-wide angle lens, and two 10MP telephoto lenses as well as a 40MP selfie lens. Samsung has highlighted its low light photography and videography capabilities as a key feature.
When Can I Get One?
The devices are set to launch globally on the 25 February, and are expected to hit the South African market on 11 March, however pre-orders are already open to the public. Expected starting price is between the R19,999 and R28,999 brackets, depending on the desired storage capacity.
