TikTok is taking app stores by storm with more than 500 million monthly active users. Gen-Zers are flocking to the app but many businesses are also exploring the app for video marketing opportunities.
The best way to get to know an app is to engage with it via your personal or business account. TikTok could seem like a daunting venture for first-time users, but just like most things in life, it gets easier with time.
Below are some steps that can assist you with conquering the app. We’ll walk you through creating an account, setting up your profile, viewing the video feed and how to like, comment or share videos.
Setting Up Your Account:
Step 1: Download The App And Sign Up
First, you’ll need to download the app via the Google Play Store or App Store. After it has been installed and you open the app, it is quite easy to create an account. It allows you to instantly sign up with Facebook, Gmail, Twitter, or create your own username and password if you don’t want another account to be connected.
Step 2: Set Up Your Profile
Once you’ve created your account it will redirect you to a feed of videos. At the bottom right, tap on the icon that looks like the outline of a person. Once you’re on your Profile, tap the Edit Profile button and add your profile picture or video. We suggest also adding a username and bio. The app also allows you to link your Instagram and YouTube accounts.
Finding Videos and Engaging With Users
Step 1: Viewing The Video Feed
Once your profile is set up, ttap on the icon that looks like a house at the bottom left of the screen. This will take you back to the video feed. Because you won’t have any followers yet, the app is programmed to send you to trending videos. As you begin to like, comment, follow and interact with more videos, your feed will become more personalised to your interests.
Step 2: Like, Comment, Or Share Videos You Enjoy
If you find a video that you like, you can tap on the heart to like it or the speech bubble to leave a comment. You can also share the video by tapping on the forward arrow icon, which will bring up your different sharing options. These icons can all be located on the right side of the screen.
If you like a video and want to see more videos from that user, you can swipe left and it will bring up their profile for you to browse. You will also be able to select if you would like to follow the user.
